Biomedcode Hellas SA (BioMC) was established in 2006 as a spin-off company of Biomedical Sciences Research
Center Alexander Fleming. Biomedcode is a contract research organization (CRO) that provides pre clinical
drug evaluation models and services in the area of autoimmune and inflammatory diseases. It provides its
services to biopharmaceutical companies using unique, humanized, spontaneous, and complex disease animal
models. The company's customers include well known global pharmaceutical companies.
Full pre-clinical drug evaluation is offered on Biomedcode's transgenic models that develop Rheumatoid Arthritis,
Cachexia, Multiple Sclerosis, Inflammatory Bowel Disease and Sepsis. Some of these humanized models include TNFa
(TNF alpha), IL-17, IL-33, and p55 TNF receptor I (TNFRI). Some of these models have been instrumental in
introducing novel therapies in the market (e.g. the Tg197 model of Rheumatoid arthritis was used for testing
Infliximab). Induced animal models of disease on wild type or transgenic mice are also available, and cover
a variety of disease areas (Asthma, peritonitis, EAE, CIA, etc).
Biomedcode maintains an active R&D program and participates FP7 European projects (MASTERSWITCH, INFLACARE).
Biomecode's customers include big pharma (top 10) and biotech companies in UK, Australia, Netherlands, Canada,
Germany, Switzerland, Russia, and Asia.
In the short term Biomedcode plans to capture and serve the majority of the new anti-TNF drug candidates market
(patented or biosimilars).
In the long term the company aims to 1) identify novel targets and generate a variety of novel humanized
transgenic disease models for preclinical use 2) expand its services to cover other disease areas 3)
develop an integrated preclinical drug evaluation platform that includes gene expression profiling and
metabolomics.
Biomedcode is looking for partners to:
- Collaborate in order to make its existing and new models readily available internationally (either supplying the models directly to interested pharma/biotech companies/institutions, or perform the preclinical and other tests in house, as appropriate)
- Collaborate in order to broaden its services portfolio and provide its customers additional services on the available models (eg toxicology services on the transgenic mice, etc)
- Collaborate on generating and commercializing new humanized transgenic disease models on novel targets
- Actively promote Biomedcode's models and services internationally
