BioHexagon operates in the discipline of Biomedical Engineering, Research, Technology and Innovation.

Based on competence and expertise, BioHexagon has established a well recognized scientific profile in the Greek community, undertaking a wide range of studies and applications with partners from the clinical, industrial as well as academic environment, and currently extending to new collaborations abroad.

Equipped with pertinent software and hardware, the company provides enhanced capabilities for development of innovative designs, computational evaluations and experimental assessments of orthopaedic implants and techniques as well as assistive surgical instrumentation and tooling.

Technology & R&D

BioHexagon has successfully undertaken Design, Research and Technological Development projects regarding orthopaedic studies and applications, such as:

  • Reconstructive surgery of joints, with implant designs for hip and knee arthroplasty.
  • Osteosynthetic surgery of bones, with implant designs for various intramedullary nailing systems.
  • Computational & experimental biomechanics, involving comparative evaluation of implant performance and biomechanical potential of surgical techniques.
  • Multitechnique retrieval studies, for post-revision analysis of arthroplasty and internal fixation implants with reference to wear, breakage and biomaterial degradation.
BioHexagon is also currently involved in Design, Research and Technological Development related to Minimally Invasive Surgical (MIS) implants & techniques as well as spinal instrumentation and biomechanics, in projects such as:
  • MIS implants and techniques, mainly addressing long bone metaphyseal fractures.
  • Reconstructive surgery of the spine, with implant designs for lumbar disc arthroplasty.
  • Computational simulation of the spine, for representation of normal and pathological 3D profiles.
On-going R&D collaborations include:
  1. Biomaterial analyses in cooperation with the Biomaterials Lab, Dental School, University of Athens.
  2. Human 3D gait & motion analyses in cooperation with the Gait Lab of ELEPAP Foundation, Athens.
  3. Manufacturing of model or final prototypes in cooperation with various CNC industrial environments.
  4. Exploitation of Funding-Business-Research opportunities, in cooperation with HBio cluster in Greece.

Target partners & Collaborations

Desired collaborations and target partner expertise sought may include (see also our Near Future Objectives):
  1. Industrial environments involved in prototyping and/or manufacturing and/or distribution of surgical orthopaedic implants as well as products related to prosthetic / orthotic musculoskeletal rehabilitation. We seek commercial partners (end users, distributors, etc), for an enhanced exploitation of our innovative portfolio.
  2. Computational environments with expertise in the simulation of biomechanical musculoskeletal or craniofacial systems, simultaneously involving soft/hard biological tissues and medical devices. We seek technology partners to establish state-of-the-art simulation services for clinical as well as industrial and recreational applications.

In the Industry Sector and Therapeutic Target as described above, our company offers the following services:
  • TESTING Mechanical & Biomechanical Testing with standard and custom appliances for bench top measurements in tension, compression, bending, torsion
  • DESIGN 3D design and modelling of parts, assemblies and systems by means of CAD software packages, involving necessary skeletal structures
  • ANALYSIS 3D modelling and analysis of parts, assemblies and systems by means of FEM-FEA software packages, involving necessary skeletal structures
  • R&D CONSULTING for Medical Devices in general as well as instruments and implants for orthopaedic or dental surgery in particular; of either at a primary conceptual stage (needing further work in research and technological development) or at an advanced stage of technological development (needing further study and testing for verification and or validation purposes).
